How do I stop my face being puffy on my wedding day?
Almost all of it is decided in the twenty-four hours before, not on the morning. Alcohol, a salty dinner, a short night and crying are the four things that reliably produce a puffy wedding morning, and three of them are unavoidable at a wedding, which is why the useful work is done in advance rather than in a panic at 6am. On the morning itself the single most effective thing available to you is being upright and moving early, because roughly a third of lymphatic flow at rest comes from muscle compression as you move.1
This is the most searched bridal beauty question that nobody answers properly, and the reason is that the honest answer is unglamorous. There is no product that drains a face on a wedding morning. There is a set of things that determine how much fluid is sitting in your tissue when you wake up, and most of them happened the day before.

Why the morning of a wedding is the worst case
Facial puffiness is fluid that has arrived in the tissue faster than the lymphatic system has carried it away. Lying flat removes the drainage assistance that being upright provides, stillness removes the muscle compression that moves lymph, and gravity decides where the fluid settles while you are horizontal.1
A wedding stacks every contributor at once. The rehearsal dinner is late, salty and alcoholic. The night is short and often broken. There is usually crying, either that evening or that morning. And you wake earlier than usual, which means less of the overnight fluid has had time to redistribute before anyone looks at you.
None of that is a failure of preparation. It is the normal physiology of a long evening followed by a short night, and knowing that is more useful than being told to drink celery juice.
- Alcohol is not water retention. Alcohol suppresses the hormone that tells your kidneys to conserve fluid, so you lose more overnight, not less.3 The puffiness is local: vessels dilate and fluid moves into the surrounding tissue.
- Salt is the lever people reach for too late. Lowering sodium on the day itself does very little. Lowering it the day before does more.
- Crying is fluid, and it settles. Around the eyes especially. It resolves faster upright than lying down, which is an argument for getting up rather than for lying with cucumber on your face.
- Sleeping propped helps and costs nothing. Less fluid settles in the face when the head is not flat.
What actually works on the morning
Get up and move. Walk, shower, get dressed, do anything that puts you upright with your muscles working, and do it earlier than the schedule strictly requires. This does more in the first hour than anything you could apply, and it is free.
Drink water steadily rather than in one go. A litre at once corrects nothing and simply means you need the bathroom during hair and makeup.
Cold on the face produces a real but brief effect: vessels constrict, the face looks paler and tighter, and it fades. It is a legitimate thing to do fifteen minutes before photographs. It is not a treatment and it will not survive the morning.
Do not use anything on your face that you have not used before, including on the morning. A reaction to a new product typically appears 24 to 72 hours after exposure and peaks at 72 to 96 hours,2 which means the sheet mask someone hands you the night before is capable of showing up in every photograph. This is the single most common preparation mistake and it is almost always a gift.
What professional work can and cannot do here
Manual lymphatic work moves fluid that is already sitting in the tissue along the drainage routes of the face and neck. That is a real, visible and temporary effect, and it is one of the few things that genuinely suits the days before a wedding, because nothing is introduced into the skin and there is no downtime.
The useful booking window is twenty-four to seventy-two hours before, not the morning itself. That allows the effect to be visible while leaving the face time to settle. It does not change your facial structure, it will not survive an unlimited amount of prosecco, and a single session close to a date is not equivalent to the months before it.
The complete timeline: when to start, what to stop and when, why the last four days is a hard cutoff for anything new, and how injectable timing works around a date.
